The President of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), Fabio Azevedo, is in Greece to participate in the proceedings of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Ancient Olympia and in the elections of the new president of the IOC.

On this occasion, he expressed his desire to meet with the President of the Hellenic Volleyball Federation (H.V.F.), Giorgos Karabetsos and on the morning of Monday, March 17, 2025, he visited the offices of the H.V.B.F., where he received a warm welcome from Giorgos Karabetsos, secretary general Efi Chroni Erota and treasurer Giannis Veroutis. This marks his first visit to Greece since his election as FIVB President.

Fabio Azevedo and Giorgos Karabetsos stated that they have known each other since 2012, when they worked together during the London Olympic Games. The H.V.B.F. President gave Azevedo a tour of the federation's offices at the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens (OAKA) and officially invited him to Greece to discuss matters concerning Greek and international volleyball and beach volleyball.

"Fabio Azevedo is a good friend and a capable leader who will undoubtedly lead world volleyball into a new era," said Giorgos Karabetsos, adding: "We agreed that Greece will be at the center of developments not only in volleyball but also in beach volleyball. He is well aware of the challenges Greece has faced in recent years and the difficulties we have overcome. We have left all that behind. His commitment to supporting the H.V.B.F. gives us strength and encouragement to achieve our major goals, which include increasing the sport’s popularity in Greece and establishing our National Teams—men’s, women’s, and youth—in both volleyball and beach volleyball among the elite and global rankings."

Giorgos Karabetsos presented Fabio Azevedo with a commemorative gift—an authentic replica of Alexander the Great, a symbol of determination, strategic thinking, and ambition.

“Giorgos Karabetsos has been my friend for many years. We have known each other since the 2012 London Olympics, and I admire the work he has done as the President of the Hellenic Federation. Greece has tremendous potential for the future. Our vision is to make every federation bigger and better. That is why I visited the offices of the Hellenic Federation. ‘Together as One’—our motto—means turning national federations into a global volleyball movement where everyone matters,” said FIVB President Fabio Azevedo.
